Where to Stay in Playa Blanca: Areas, Beaches & Hotel Types

Playa Blanca is one of Lanzarote’s main resort areas, but the best place to stay depends on whether you want a walkable centre, easy beach access, a marina atmosphere, a quieter resort zone or convenient access toward Papagayo.

For help comparing island coasts and resort styles more broadly, see the Beach & Island Travel Guide. For rate and booking decisions, use the Hotel Booking Guide.

Rather than naming one hotel as “the best”, this guide explains the main parts of Playa Blanca and the trade-offs that matter before you book.

Central Playa Blanca

Choose the centre if you want to walk to restaurants, shops, the promenade and the town beach without planning transport for every meal. The official Lanzarote tourism site describes Playa Blanca beach as a semi-urban beach with calm water, accommodation, restaurants and public transport.

See the official Playa Blanca beach information.

Playa Dorada

Playa Dorada can suit travelers who want a sandy beach and a resort-style stay while remaining reasonably close to the centre and Marina Rubicón. It is often a strong choice for families, but popularity can mean more activity around the beach.

Check whether your accommodation is genuinely walkable to the sand; the area name alone does not guarantee direct beach access.

Marina Rubicón

The marina area works well for travelers who value waterfront restaurants, evening walks and a more polished resort setting. It also suits couples who prefer dining and promenade atmosphere over being directly beside the main town beach.

Check how far your hotel actually is from the beach you expect to use; “near the marina” and “beachfront” are not the same thing.

Las Coloradas and the eastern side

The eastern side of Playa Blanca can be convenient for access toward Los Ajaches and the Papagayo beaches. It can feel quieter than the centre, but you may rely more on walking, buses, taxis or a rental car for some activities.

This area works best when you are comfortable with a slightly more spread-out resort layout.

Montaña Roja and the western side

The west side has larger resort developments and a quieter feel in many sections. It can suit travelers who plan to spend significant time at the property itself.

Check the exact walking distance to restaurants and the central promenade before booking; some resorts are much more self-contained than others.

Which area is best for families?

  • Playa Dorada: convenient beach-focused choice.
  • Central Playa Blanca: useful for families who want easy restaurants and promenade walks.
  • Large resort zones: useful if pools, kids facilities and meal plans matter more than town access.

For families, the room layout matters as much as the area. Confirm actual beds, maximum occupancy, pool setup and walking distance to the beach before paying.

Which area is best for couples?

Marina Rubicón works well for evening walks and waterfront dining, while quieter western or eastern resort zones suit couples prioritizing space, pools and resort time.

If restaurants and bars are a major part of the trip, walkability is worth more than a slightly larger room far from the centre.

What hotel type should you choose?

Family resort

Prioritize real sleeping configuration, children’s facilities, pool layout, meal flexibility and distance to the beach rather than simply choosing the property with the longest amenity list.

Adults-only or couples hotel

Look at evening noise, pool atmosphere, restaurant style and whether you want the marina, central promenade or a quieter edge-of-town location.

Apartment or self-catering

Kitchen facilities can be useful for longer stays or families. Compare grocery access, laundry facilities and transport as well as room price.

All-inclusive resort

An all-inclusive makes most sense when you expect to spend substantial time at the resort. If you want to explore Lanzarote every day, paying for meals you rarely use may reduce the value.

Do you need a rental car?

You do not necessarily need a car for a Playa Blanca-focused holiday if your accommodation is walkable to restaurants and the beach. A car becomes more useful if you plan to explore Timanfaya, northern Lanzarote, multiple villages or remote beaches.

Before renting for the entire trip, compare the cost of a few day tours or taxis with parking and rental costs.

Airport transfer planning

Playa Blanca is on the southern side of Lanzarote, so arrival and departure transfers need to be part of the booking decision. Check whether your hotel provides transfers, whether a shared shuttle fits your flight time or whether a taxi/private transfer is more practical for your group.

Questions to answer before booking

  • Which beach will you actually use?
  • Can you walk to dinner in the evening?
  • Do you need a rental car?
  • Is the room configuration suitable for your group?
  • Are pools heated when that matters to you?
  • What is included in the meal plan?
  • How long is the airport transfer?
  • Is the hotel genuinely beachfront or simply in a coastal resort area?

Playa Blanca or another Lanzarote base?

Playa Blanca is only one option on the island. Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise, Arrecife, Famara and northern villages create very different trips.

See our Where to Stay in Lanzarote guide before committing to the south, and use How to Find Cheap Hotels to compare total accommodation cost rather than nightly price alone.
